What is LNG?

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is a natural gas (mainly methane, CH4, with a mixture of ethane, C2H6) that has been cooled to a liquid state for ease and safety of storage or transport without pressure.

Occupies about 1/600 volume of natural gas in gaseous state (under standard temperature and pressure conditions).

Property

It is odorless, colorless, non-toxic and non-corrosive.
Risks include flammability after gaseous evaporation, freezing and suffocation.
The liquefaction process involves the removal of certain components such as dust, acid gases, helium, water and heavy hydrocarbons that can cause problems downstream.

Gas produced from hydrocarbon reserves typically includes a wide range of hydrocarbon products, usually including methane (CH4), ethane (C2H6), propane (C3H8), and butane (C4H10).

The gas stream typically separates into liquid petroleum segments (butane and propane), which can be stored in liquid form at relatively low pressures, and the lighter ethane and methane segments.

These lighter parts of methane and ethane are then liquefied to form the bulk of the transported LNG.

Natural gas has been economically insignificant wherever oil or gas fields are located away from gas pipelines or in offshore locations where pipelines are not operational.

In the past, this usually meant that the natural gas produced was normally ignited, especially since, unlike oil, there was no effective way to store or transport natural gas other than pipelines, which required immediate use by end users.

It was the same gas.

When It is returned to its gaseous state, it is used across the residential,

commercial and industrial sectors for purposes as diverse as heating, cooking, generating electricity and manufacturing a wide variety of products. It is also used as a fuel for heavy-duty and other vehicles.

Application LNG

The main application of LNG is to simplify the transfer of natural gas from source to destination.
On a large scale, this is done when the origin and destination are separated by ocean.
It can also be used when sufficient pipeline capacity is not available.

For large-scale transportation, LNG is usually recharged at the end of recharging and discharged to local natural gas pipeline infrastructure.

LNG can also be used to meet peak demand when conventional pipeline infrastructure can meet most demand needs, but not peak demand.

These plants are commonly referred to as LNG Peak Shaving Plants,

because the goal is to remove part of the demand demand from what is needed from the supply pipeline.

LNG can be used to fuel internal combustion engines.

It is in the early stages of becoming a major fuel for transportation needs.
